Aston And Dressage Practice

Bill Levett and Piltown Colours, Aston. July 2016It’d been another busy day at team Levett. The morning was spent back at Aston doing Tonto’s first intermediate. I would have to say since his first three-day up at Houghton he has continued to show maturity.

The highlight for me was how well he coped with the cross country course today – he felt very confident and like he was still going round a novice. So he is now officially an intermediate horse and will continue to be until the end of the season, where we will aim him at a CCI2* somewhere.

Once Tonto was finished up it was a quick dash back home to ride Alex through the Olympic dressage test down at Hunters. It’s nice to get another opportunity to ride through the patterns in a test environment. It’s pleasing that Alex is getting more established with a four star test, today was his best effort so far and he is a horse who always tries very hard.

Today I’ve done my last cross country until the run into Rio as training camp starts tomorrow. We are going to try and enjoy the next two weeks and I will do my part, whatever that may be, in helping team Australia come up with a successful result. In the last week you just hope that your horse stays sound and doesn’t pick up any niggles which would prevent you from getting on that plane. All of us at team Levett have our fingers crossed and if we make it safely to Stanstead on Friday morning we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Cheers,

Bill
