Blenheim

I’m driving home from Blenheim feeling very satisfied after Alfie and Sparkles have done really well.

At the start of the week it looked like the weather was going to come in and give us a really wet weekend but as it turned out it was just sunshine and showers.

It was the last leg of the ERM series and I was hoping for Alfie’s best run yet. After a lovely test and showjumping round I was in 5th position going into the cross country.

Alfie put his best foot forward and gave me a lovely clear round with only five time penalties – he is such a genuine soul and it was great to see him finish off, showing his talent with a spring in his step.

Sparkles was very exuberant in his dressage which was frustrating as he has scored solidly all year. The showjumping was a bit frustrating as he had the first fence and then, later on in the course, he had another which was my fault.

Sunday morning saw me with only Sparkles cross country to do. He has always been one of my favourites to ride across country, and today he didn’t disappoint with a lovely clear and six time penalties.

Blenheim is a good event for us, but the only downside is that the ground can get on the firm side. With the rain we had leading up to the event the ground was really good. It will be interesting to see how David Evans (the course designer) develops the course over the next few years.

So, all in all, the Blenheim experience for Team Levett was a good one and it’s always nice to see the horses finish sound and well for next year.

Cheers,

Bill
