We have had a lot of rain in last 36 hours and the ground was pretty soft by the time I went and the time was proving almost impossible to get after the first few had gone, who had had the better ground.
Ricky tried hard and jumped well for the first two thirds of the course – he was clear until the second water and then stopped twice at the drop in and so I retired. It was very out of character, I’m gutted and very disappointed for his owners but we are both ok.
Not sure why he stopped – wish he could talk. It was pretty dark jumping in to the second water by the time I went so maybe that caught him out, I’m really not sure. He’s not a blood horse and never grabs the bridle, and he does have his own way of going but he didn’t feel exhausted and he hadn’t lost his jump.
It’s a mystery.
Anyway its back to the drawing board, but lots of positives to take from what we did do on the round and of course his great dressage yesterday.
