Yesterday we were cross country schooling. It was another cold day with a little bit of ice around the edges of the water jump on arrival but not fully frozen so on we got on with it, having our first session of the year. Surprisingly the ground was perfect and all the horses were enjoying being out on grass again – I do love riding cross country. All the older horses went very well, seeming to be confident and ready for the season which was reassuring. Nelly and Lenny, who we haven’t had for very long, really benefited from their cross country schooling experience. These two just need to be taken a few more times to bring on their education and confidence.
Today I’ve been to do some BE dressage, back at Rectory Farm again. Alfie and Tommy were strutting their stuff. Both went quite well, Tommy was surprisingly well behaved, as he can be quite excitable and Alfie had moments of really nice work followed by the odd loss of balance and rhythm but he should become established at 3* level and give us some lovely work this year. So all in all it was well worth the outing.
Tomorow I’m at Hunters doing dressage with Rick, Womble and Silver and then it won’t be long until the season kicks off at Aston on Saturday – can’t wait.
Cheers,
Bill
