Eventing, like all sports and much of life, is full of its highs and lows and today definitely had both for Team Levett
The highlight of the day was Alfie’s showjumping. He jumped well and I rode well too. Womble was very good too, unlucky to have the last fence in the show jumping, after giving me a relaxed and confident ride around the track.
It was always the plan not to run Alfie today and save him for Hartpury next weekend as part of our pre WEG preparation.
However as planned we did run Womble cross country. He gave me a nice ride around all the complicated combinations and was relaxed and confident but at the water jump near the end of the course unfortunately I didn’t get the right striding and he got his legs stuck in the front of the suspended log in. We had another go and represented, he was brave enough to jump in although left his legs and we both came down for a good ducking in the water. He seems okay but he will probably be stiff for a few days.
Silks did his dressage bright and early this morning in the Open, second in to the arena. He was quite a good boy, coming in with a 49 – it was a workman-like test for him, some very good parts and some not so good. We will be back tomorrow with him to see if he and I can showjump and cross country well together, as I’d like to be competitive if possible in the Open class.
Cheers
Bill
