Go Alfie – Clear Cross Country At Badminton!

So cross country day at Badminton draws to a close and I’m pleased to report that Alfie was a star! He jumped beautifully around the course taking the direct routes everywhere and he made the course feel easy in many many respects. He was adjustable and listening to me the whole way round always looking for the next set of flags.

We only had one moment jumping in to the birch rails at the first water where he left a leg but he stayed true and looked for the next set of flags and we recovered in time for the skinny.

I’m thrilled with him, lots of positives to take from the day – the time faults are annoying and I’m questioning myself as to whether I should have been braver in how I went out at the beginning of the track. However, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I’m pleased that Alfie has had a run on good ground at a four star as his last two runs have been in less than ideal ground at WEG and Badminton last year. So it’s nice for him to have a trip on good ground.

Huge thanks to Emily, Anna, Nick, Spike and the Equestrian Australia support crew for their help today and this week, and with a good nights sleep for Alfie and me I’m hoping for a good clear in the show jumping tomorrow to finish things off.

Cheers,

Bill
