Burghley – On Our Way

Bill LevettWomble is all ready and in the back of the lorry as we are on the way to Burghley. At the moment everything seems to be staying right on track. As we get closer it seems they haven’t had as much rain up this way as we have had at home which is good and so hopefully the ground will be good too.

I had a bit of stuff to do and horses to work at home so we left a bit later than planned, but will get up there before dark to get settled in. Trot up is tomorrow afternoon and as we have dressage on Friday it gives us two days to get Womble familiarised with that Burghley arena.

We’re relying a lot on the girls at home again to keep everything ticking over, especially looking after Alex and Alfie who are still getting ready for their big autumn goals and need to keep galloping and getting fit. This will be Womble’s fourth four star now and he has been going well, but getting to these big competitions with lots of atmosphere is always difficult. I’m hoping he can give a good account of himself and I obviously will have to play my part too and give him a good ride.

It’s the ultimate test for horse and rider to get to somewhere like Burghley and, although the adrenaline will be pumping, if you can deliver a good performance it is always a great feeling. Em’s coming along as always to look after the Gonk and Jenny and the kids are coming up on the weekend to show their support too. All in all everything is right in place and now all that’s left is to give it a good shot.

Cheers,

Bill
