
I had the chance to catch up with the Burghley coverage when arriving home. It is such a wonderful event but one you definitely need the right horse for. Again if you can finish in the low 40’s then you are right in the mix. There seemed to be even good horses feeling the pinch physically on cross country and I thought it showed on the last day, with very few clear rounds and a lot of rattled poles.
Unlike Badminton there always seem to be some different tests out there each year. The Discovery Valley was really interesting and showed even ridden well it could be hard work. Well done to Jock, what a roll he is on now. Will he get that elusive grand slam and go one better than Andrew and William – only time will tell.
